Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon salt.
  • 1½ cup raisins stoned and cut in quarters.
  • 1 teaspoon extract lemon.
  • Flour.
  • 1¼ cup lukewarm water.
  • 1 cup scalded milk.
  • ¼ cup sugar.

Method

  1. Add one-half sugar and salt to milk ; when lukewarm,
  2. add dissolved yeast cake and one and one-half cups flour ;
  3. cover, and let rise until light ; add butter, remaining sugar,
  4. raisins, lemon, and enough flour to knead ; let rise, shape
  5. like biscuits, let rise again, and bake.
  6. If wanted glazed,
  7. brush over with beaten egg before baking.

Kitchen Notes

  • Scald milk means heat it until very hot, not boiling.
