Baked Mac and Cheese
Reserve pasta water; it's the secret to glossy sauces.
Ingredients
- 12 oz macaroni
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
- 1 tbsp melted butter (for crumbs)
Method
- Cook macaroni; drain.
- Make cheese sauce (butter+flour, milk, melt in cheddar); season.
- Combine pasta and sauce; pour into a baking dish.
- Top with buttered breadcrumbs if using; bake 375°F 20 minutes; broil 1–2 minutes to brown.
