Oatmeal Gruel I.
Ingredients
- ½ cup coarse oatmeal.
- 3 cups boiling water.
- 1 teaspoon salt.
- Milk.
Method
- Add oatmeal and salt to boiling water and cook three hours in double boiler. Force through a strainer, dilute with milk or cream, reheat, and strain a second time.
Kitchen Notes
- A double boiler is a bowl or insert set over simmering water.
